What this tool does
The catch is that Meta hands you an empty box. Nobody wants to sit and type out every crypto scam, every fake giveaway, and every account recovery pitch from memory. This tool fills the box for you, with the phrases that actually show up under paid ads, tuned to your niche.
It is free, there is no signup and no email, and the whole thing runs in your browser. Your brand name and competitor names never reach a server, because there is no server involved.
How to add hidden words on Instagram
Instagram's custom word list lives under Hidden Words in your settings. The field takes a comma-separated list, which is exactly what the tool above produces.
- 1Generate and copy your listUse the tool above. Pick the platform and your niche, tick the categories you want hidden, then press Copy list.
- 2Open Hidden Words in InstagramGo to your profile, tap the menu, then Settings and activity. Scroll to the Hidden Words section.
- 3Open Manage custom wordsTap Manage custom words and phrases. This is your own list, separate from Instagram's built-in offensive word filter.
- 4Paste and savePaste into the field, which prompts you to add words separated by commas, then confirm. Instagram starts hiding matching comments right away.
- 5Turn on the built-in filter tooWhile you are in Hidden Words, switch on Instagram's own offensive words filter. It runs alongside your custom list, so you get both.
How to add blocked words on a Facebook Page
Facebook keeps the same idea under Content Moderation. The list is comma-separated here too, and Facebook additionally lets you upload a .csv if you would rather not paste.
- 1Copy your listIn the tool above, switch the platform to Facebook Page, then press Copy list.
- 2Open your Content Moderation settingsFrom your Page, go to Settings, then Privacy, then Public Posts, and scroll down to Content Moderation. It sits in your Page settings, not in Meta Business Suite own settings.
- 3Paste into the blocked words fieldPaste the list in and save. You can also use the .csv upload option if you prefer to keep the list in a file.
- 4Set the profanity filterFacebook has a separate profanity filter with strength settings. Turn it on in addition to your list, since the two catch different things.
What a blocked words list catches, and what it misses
This matters more than the list itself. A keyword filter is genuinely useful and you should absolutely set one up. It is also not comment moderation, and knowing the difference saves you from thinking the job is done.
What the list catches
- The scams you already know aboutCrypto pitches, fake giveaways, and account recovery bait use the same phrases over and over. A list kills them on sight, for free, forever.
- Some variations of those wordsFacebook's help centre says it also hides variations of your keywords, including common misspellings, plurals, abbreviations, and words written with numbers or symbols.
- Contact bait pulling buyers awayReplies pushing your customers into WhatsApp or Telegram nearly always name the app, so they are easy to catch by name.
- Obvious abuseBetween your list and Meta's built-in offensive words filter, the crude stuff mostly stops showing up under your ads.
What it misses
- Anything not on your listA filter only knows the words you gave it. Every new scam script, trend, and slang term is invisible until you notice it and add it by hand. The list is never finished.
- The difference between a scammer and a customerBlock the word scam and you also hide the buyer asking whether your product is a scam. That is a real customer, with a real objection, and now you cannot answer them.
- Spam that uses no words at allComments that are just emojis, or a screenshot, or a profile picture doing the selling. There is no keyword to match.
- Every language you did not listIf you run ads in Arabic, French, or Spanish, you need a separate list of words for each one. The English list does nothing for them.
- Real questions that need an answerHiding is not replying. Your best comments are people asking about price, sizing, and shipping. A filter cannot tell you those are waiting.
- Everything past one accountThe list is per account. Run ten Pages and you maintain ten lists by hand, with no shared record of what got hidden or why.
Hidden Words vs Sweep Inbox
Set up the free list first. It costs nothing and it works. Here is where it stops, and what changes when a tool reads the comment instead of matching it.
| Meta Hidden Words | Sweep Inbox | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Free, built into Meta | Paid, with a 7 day free trial |
| How it decides | Matches the words on your list, plus variations of them | Reads the comment and works out what it is |
| New scam wording | Gets through until you spot it and add it yourself | Handled without you touching a list |
| Other languages | You write a separate word list per language | Any language, no list to write |
| Customer questions | Hidden along with everything else, or missed entirely | Surfaced so you can reply and keep the sale |
| Several ad accounts | Repeat the setup on every account by hand | Connect them once, manage from one place |
| Record of what happened | Little to no visibility into what got hidden | Full log of every comment and the action taken |
| Upkeep | You maintain the list forever | Nothing to maintain |
Questions people actually ask
- It is Instagram's built-in comment filter. It has two halves: a switch that hides comments Instagram judges to be offensive, and a custom list where you add your own words, phrases, numbers, or emojis. Anything matching gets hidden from your comments and your message requests. This tool fills in the custom list.
